Another series of Marian Apparitions occurred on Mount Corneille, in the village Le Puy located in the Auvergne region of central France.  Soon after the arrival of Christianity between the 3rd and fourth centuries AD the Virgin Mary appeared to a local women suffering with an incurable disease. Upon being instructed to climb Mount Corneille and sit upon the huge prehistoric dolmen known as Pierre de Fievres or “Fever Rock” as it was known, the illness miraculously left her.

Appearing to her for the second time Our Lady instructed the woman to build a Church on the hill and when the local Bishop heard of this he decided to investigate her claims.  Despite climbing the hill sometime in July he mysteriously found its top covered in snow accompanied by a lone deer that walked through the snow tracing the ground plan of the Cathedral to be built there.  Convinced by what he had seen he immediately ordered the construction of the Cathedral which was completed in 430 AD.

Despite some protest the pagan dolmen remained standing within its sanctuary and was consecrated as the Throne of Mary. It was not until the 8th century by which time it had become known as the “Stone of visions” that the monument was taken down, broken up and incorporated into the floor of the Church which was to become part of the Chambre Angelique or “angels chamber”. The Basilica (pictured) compositely constructed throughout the fifth to twelfth centuries now stands on the ancient site. A popular Medieval pilgrimage Site Le Puy has continued to be blessed with numerous  reported visions and healings.
